Ep.1/ Resiliency

In recent years resiliency has been a buzzword within the corporate world.

Something we have increasingly seen is what we have termed toxic resiliency. This is where the onus of workplace resilience is placed solely on the individual.

In the fast-paced, changing world of business, individuals and organisations need to be agile, easily adaptable and forward-thinking. It is this process of continual change and transition that causes stress and adversity within the workplace.

Building individual and workplace resilience provides the mechanisms through which this agility can be achieved. While there are many mindful tools and techniques an individual can learn to bolster and build a solid foundation for resiliency, prominent aspects of workplace resilience encompass:

🌱 Cultivating an open and supportive environment where change can take place.

🌱 Cultivating a space where individuals feel they can express their beliefs and are willing to give others the same privilege.

🌱 Cultivating a space of open communication where individuals and those around them can express their ideas, hopes and disagreements in a non-judgmental place.

So while personal resiliency is important, so is:

🌳 The environment.
📢 Management styles.
💛 Caring relationships.
💬 Lines of open, non-judgmental communication.

To understand more about workplace resilience, an interesting paper to read is ‘Enhancing Resilience in the Workplace Through the Practice of Caring Relationships’, Wilson, S. M., & Ferch, S. R. (2005).
