Ep.7/ A love of learning

Learning at Work ✏️🌍

I want to view this through the lens of positive psychology and look at the strength of love of learning. This encompasses experiencing positive feelings during the process of acquiring new skills, building on current knowledge, satisfying curiosity or even learning something entirely new.

Cultivating this in yourself and or your team is important as it has motivational consequences which help individuals to persist through transitions, setbacks, negative feedback and challenges. It improves confidence, and personal growth, and fosters inventive problem-solving, adaptability and a sense of purpose.

So how can we cultivate this strength in ourselves and others?

β˜€οΈ Create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable to ask questions.

πŸ”„ Let yourself or others get it wrong and try again (and again and again – mistakes and failures are opportunities to grow and learn).

πŸ’ͺ🏻 Autonomy - increases motivation and engagement.

🧠 Intrinsic motivators. Mastery of a new skill, or area of interest feels good – no extrinsic motivators needed (in fact this can have the opposite effect).

πŸ’• Make learning meaningful.

πŸ€” Let yourself be curious.

πŸ’ Remind yourself you don’t need to be a master of something to enjoy it.

🌱 Give yourself the space and freedom to learn and grow in a non-judgemental space.

πŸ™πŸ» Cultivate positive relationships. Create an atmosphere where you and others have a sense of belonging.

🌈 Come into periods of learning with an open mind.

☝🏻 MOST importantly…. Everyone learns differently!! Some are visual learners, some are aural learners, some are read/write learners and some are kinesthetic learners. There is no right or wrong way!! So allow yourself to absorb, process and embody knowledge in ways that suit you/them!!
